Homicide detectives are investigating the murders of two men who were killed in Arima and Maraval on Sunday night. In the first incident, a 28-year-old man was chopped to death during a domestic dispute in Arima.
According to reports, around 8.15 pm, Andell Maloney, of Moonlight Avenue, Demerara Road, Arima, was liming at home with friends and relatives. Police said Maloney got into an argument with his female companion which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. After a couple of minutes, a male relative of the woman intervened. He reportedly drew a cutlass and chopped Maloney several times in his head.
Maloney ran towards a neighbour’s house, where he collapsed. His neighbour took him to the Arima Health Facility, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Northern Division police led by ASP Francis Joseph and Insps Simon and Jugmohan responded but made no arrests. Maloney’s companion was detained and was said to be assisting investigators. Police said an arrest was imminent as eyewitnesses identified the suspect.
The same night, a 34-year-old Maraval man was shot dead near his home. Police said around 11.20 pm, Wendell Roberts, of Upper Clovis Street, Morne Coco Road, Maraval, was walking home after buying a box of chicken and chips.
