A 34-year-old man was killed in a midday shooting in Cocorite yesterday. Police reports stated that around 12.45 pm, Atiba Worme, 34, of Waterhole, Cocorite, was walking along the Western Main Road. Investigators said Worme was approached by a man who shot him several times.
The shooting was witnessed by several residents. The gunman reportedly fired a couple of shots in the air before he ran away. Worme was taken to the St James Medical Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Homicide detectives said Worme was well known to them and his murder has been classified as gang-related.
Following the shooting, a group of Western Division Police, led by Insp Henry Dann went to the community in search of Worme’s attacker. The suspect, who is believed to be a Cocorite resident, was not arrested up to yesterday afternoon. Worme’s murder raised the murder toll for the year to 135.
