Police are seeking the public’s assistance in finding two mothers who abandoned a one-day-old baby and a foetus in separate incidents between Thursday and yesterday morning. The baby girl was found on Thursday night at Malick, Barataria, and the foetus was discovered yesterday on the Beetham Highway. A report said the baby was found hidden in a plastic bag by a man who was rummaging in a dump around 10 pm.
He notified the police and the baby was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. Police said the baby was in good health. They are looking for a suspect who lives in the area. Investigating officers are calling for the parents to come forward. Residents named the child Destiny. When contacted, officials at the hospital did not comment on baby Destiny’s condition.
The foetus was found at the back of the National Petroleum compound near the Water and Sewerage Authority’s treatment plant around 10 am yesterday. Besson Street police, who responded to the report, said they were looking for the parents. Anyone with information can contact 555, 800-TIPS or the nearest police station.
