The Susamachar Presbyterian Church, Carib Street, San Fernando, is expected to be packed with members of the legal fraternity today for the funeral service of Justice Wendell Kangaloo, who died last Friday at the St Clair Medical Centre. The service will take place at 1.30 pm. Kangaloo, 57, who acted on many occasions as Chief Justice, and was also the most senior Appeal Court judge, was involved in a car accident on May 21 last year at Savannah Drive, Trincity.
Court protocol and information manager of the judiciary Jones P Madeira said yesterday all judicial officers and staff were invited to attend the funeral. He said both the Port-of-Spain and the San Fernando High Courts would cease operations for half-day today to give members of the judiciary ample time to attend the funeral. The judiciary has also been providing condolence books to be signed by members of its staff, the legal fraternity and the general public wishing to pay their respects to Kangaloo.
These books, which are available until July 31, are on the first floor of the Hall of Justice, Port-of-Spain, and also at the Supreme Court locations in San Fernando and Scarborough, Tobago, Madeira added. Kangaloo was also the president of the Arima Race Club (ARC). He was admitted to the Bar in October 1984 and was appointed a puisne judge in 1996, at 39, when he was one of the youngest people to assume that office.
