A 32-year-old Belmont man who was convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old schoolboy, was yesterday sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labour. In sentencing Lincoln Holder, of Industry Lane, Belmont, Justice Maria Wilson said she had considered the prevalence of sexual offences in T&T. Wilson said also she had considered the emotional and psychological trauma done to the victim, as well as the fact that Holder showed no remorse for his actions.

In his mitigation plea for leniency, Holder’s attorney, Richard Mason, submitted that his client was 19 at the time of the incident and did not have a criminal record then. He also noted that the victim did not suffer any injuries and Holder escorted him home after the assault. As part of the sentence, Wilson ordered Holder to report to police for ten years after he is released from prison. Holder was convicted of serious indecency by a nine-member jury before Wilson on June 11.

The victim, now 25, testified that Holder invited him to his home and he went along. The victim said that after the assault, Holder offered to give him money. He also said that Holder threatened to kill him if he reported the incident to his father or the police. The victim confessed to his father days later. Holder was eventually arrested and charged with the offence. Prosecutor Randall Hector represented the State.
