Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who was killed in a shooting at an apartment building in Port-of-Spain early yesterday. The victim, whom police described as an African male in his 20s, remained unidentified up to late yesterday. His killing, with two others in south Trinidad on Sunday night, took the murder toll for the year to 193. According to reports, shortly after midnight on Sunday, residents of Buildings 58 and 60, George Street, Port-of-Spain, reported hearing several gunshots.

After a few minutes they found the victim lying in a pathway which separates the buildings. He had been shot in the head and abdomen. The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer, who ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James. Meanwhile, investigations continue into a shooting in East Dry River on Friday night that left one man dead and six others with gunshot wounds at hospital.  In that incident, around 9 pm on Friday, 28-year-old Jamal James, his brother Joseph, 22, and friends Trevor Williams (49), Kayden Hutchinson (24), Kurt Fields (37), Idi Miggins (35) and Michael Francis (22), all of East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, were playing dominoes on Telemaque Lane.

Police said the friends were approached by four gunmen who opened fire, then ran off. James was pronounced dead at the scene while his brother and friends were taken to hospital. Senior Supt Wayne Boyd, ASP Ajith Persad and Insp Sahadeo Singh of the Port-of-Spain CID are probing both incidents.
