CrimeWatch host Ian Alleyne visited the family and friends of 40-year-old murder victim  Alicia Sydney. Sydney, of Basse Terre Village, Moruga, was chopped to death by the man she was living with. So vicious was the attack that Sydney was almost decapitated. Alleyne questioned the family to determine the motive behind the senseless murder. He was told that the incident occurred at the man’s residence, Rust Trace Junction, Biche, on November 15.

Neighbours reportedly heard an argument between the couple then screams. When they checked the house they found Sydney dead and the suspect nowhere to be found. Alleyne aired the photos of Sydney’s body to show the horrific extent of the injuries which ultimately caused her death. Her head had been almost completely severed from her body and her hand was also chopped at the wrist.

Alleyne was told that the suspect and Sydney had an argument at a funeral regarding the amount of gold jewelry she was wearing. The man also demanded that she hand over the jewelry to him when they arrived home. According to relatives, the suspect had previously taken jewelry from her and pawned it to get money but never retrieved the items for her. The Crime Watch host later attended Sydney’s funeral and assured the family that he will assist police in bringing justice for her murder.

The suspect is still at large and is wanted by the Rio Claro police. The public is urged to contact Crime Watch at 294-4081 (whatsapp only) or the Crime Watch hotlines 304-0052, 290-4426 or 361-7776 or the Rio Claro police with any information regarding the whereabouts of the accused.

In another developing story, Alleyne interviewed Patsy Rampersad, who allegedly paid relative Joyce Panchoo, of Rampersad Trace, Penal, $69,000 for a parcel of land over a period of 12 months. The arrangement went sour when the land deal never materialised. Rampersad demanded her money back from Panchoo. Panchoo reportedly agreed to refund the money but Rampersad has not yet received any payment.

Rampersad turned to Alleyne and the Crime Watch team for assistance. Alleyne contacted Panchoo who agreed to reimburse  Rampersad her money. To date, Alleyne has recovered $10,000 for the victim and is awaiting further payments. He called on Panchoo to contact Crime Watch to complete the agreed payments. Alleyne also aired live footage of two men stealing an oxygen welding tank at Macaulay, Claxton Bay, on November 4.

He pointed out that a transport vehicle was used to transport the tank from the scene. He asked the public to contact Crime Watch with any information regarding the identity and whereabouts of the suspects aired in the video or the owner of the alleged “get away” vehicle. Footage of a robbery at 10th Avenue Barataria on October 21 was also aired.

Alleyne featured a man robbing a woman while she was entering her place of work. The bandit was seen removing all her jewelry, money, phone and also entering the business, where he then robbed everyone there of money. The bandit also used the butt of his gun to hit the woman’s co-worker in the face, a blow which fractured the woman’s cheekbone. Alleyne is asking anyone who has information to please contact CrimeWatch as the investigations continue.

Breakthrough story
Oshane Marks, who was employed with Detect and Deter, came to the CrimeWatch set seeking help. He claimed he had not received his salaries since May 2014, amounting to a total of $12,360. Alleyne contacted the company and was able to get the money for Marks.

Unsolved Mysteries
Alleyne is seeking Anthony Peter, of MP Technologist Security Firm, Tacarigua, to contact him in connection with a matter involving employee Lystra Phillips.

Undertakers remove Alicia Sydney’s body from the crime scene in Biche on November 14.
