Even though the police have not yet established a motive for the heinous murder of Dana Seetahal, SC, neither the Judiciary or its officers will not be intimidated in carrying out their functions.
In a press statement hours after Seetahal was gunned down in a “professional hit,” the Judiciary expressed sadness and grave concern over the violent attack. Expressing condolences to her family, friends and colleagues, the Judiciary noted that Seetahal was well known and regarded  by members of the Judiciary. “While, at this time, there is no established motive for this heinous act, it cannot escape attention that Ms Seetahal has appeared frequently in the criminal courts both as a prosecutor and as a defence attorney.

“In this regard and mindful of the unfortunate murder last week of someone who, after attending a hearing at the Arima Magistrates Court, was brutally gunned down within yards of the court entrance, the organisation wishes to emphasise that the Judiciary, its judges, magistrates and other officers, will not be swayed from their commitment to carrying out their mandate without fear or favour, and will be equally faithful to the principles of a fair hearing for all, in accordance with the rule of law.” The Judiciary expressed confidence that the relevant authorities will ensure that Seetahal’s murder, as well as any act that may tend to interfere with the delivery of justice, free and fair, will meet with swift and decisive action.
