A deportee who went into hiding in Valencia after being robbed some time ago, died at hospital after being shot by an unknown gunman on Sunday night.
Adrian Julius, 23, of Malabar, succumbed to gunshot injuries while being prepared for emergency surgery at Sangre Grande hospital.
Police reports revealed that around 8 pm on Sunday, Julius was walking along Clarence Trace, Valencia, when he was ambushed by a gunman and fired upon. Julius attempted to run but collapsed a short distance away.
PCs Lenny, Stewart, Sookdeo, Joseph and Glasgow, of the Valencia Police Station, responded to the shooting. On arrival the officers found Julius unconscious with gunshot wounds to the chest but still alive. They placed him in a police vehicle and took him to the Sangre Grande District Hospital.
Julius, who was shot twice, died as doctors were preparing him for emergency surgery.
Police said Julius was well known to them and had left Malabar and gone into hiding in Valencia after being threatened by men who had reportedly robbed him.
The shooting and killing of Julius brings the number of people killed for the year to 146.
Officers attached to Arouca Homicide Region II are continuing investigations.
