Local Government Minister Dr Surujrattan Rambachan says the Integrity Commission should not only probe the controversial e-mails exposed by Dr Keith Rowley in May, but Rowley as well. Rambachan, who spoke to the Sunday Guardian after formally commissioning the Exile Rugby Sporting Facility at Charles Street South, Gasparillo, said he welcomed news of the probe. “I think the Integrity Commission is duty-bound to also probe the accuser,” he said.

On Friday the Commission announced that it had started an investigation to determine the authenticity of electronic mails as provided to the Commission by the former president, Prof George Maxwell Richards.” In May Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley exposed some 31 e-mails, which he purported to be an exchange between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Rambachan and Attorney General Anand Ramlogan conspiring to kill journalist Denyse Renne and tap the phone lines in the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Yesterday Rambachan  said he has nothing to fear from the probe since, “there is no truth to any of these allegations that have been made.” “I was never worried and I continue not to be worried,” he said Rambachan declined comment on the resignation of St Joseph MP Herbert Volney from the United National Congress (UNC).

“We have to wait and see what happens. From what I have read in the newspaper reports this morning, steps have been initiated and I would not like to comment until we see the outcome of those steps,” he said.
