Jack Warner says nothing will come out of a police probe into allegations that he tried to bribe officials of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) last May. Police have concluded investigations and a file has been submitted to Director of Police Prosecutions Roger Gaspard for perusal. Asked whether he was worried about the probe, Warner said: “Out of zero comes zero and out of nothing will come nothing so why are you worried? “You cannot pursue anything out of this.” Under former Police Commissioner Dr Dwayne Gibbs an investigation was conducted into reports that in May 2011, undeclared sums of US currency were brought into the country and used to bribe officials of CFU during a meeting chaired by Warner.
Warner, who subsequently resigned his position as FIFA’s vice president, had urged CFU officials to support Mohamed bin Hammam of Qatar rather than incumbent Sepp Blatter in the FIFA presidential election. Last year, Gaspard said the information supplied to him by the police was insufficient to lay charges and under current acting COP Stephen Williams, further investigations continued. Speaking to reporters during a walkabout in Laventille Saturday, Warner said he was concerned about escalating crime.
Asked to comment on crime talks between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, Warner said while he was National Security Minister, he gave a 100-point crime plan to the Prime Minister. “I sent a note to her to remind her. She has taken note of three of them. Nothing she has said is new or original. “I want them to go back to my measures. If they implement at least half of them, the country will be in a better place,” he added. He said he was genuinely concerned about the welfare of all the people of T&T, not just those in the PNM areas, many of whom, he said, were being victimised by the People’s Partnership.
