A 39-year-old Belmont man was killed in a shooting near his home on Thursday night. Police said around 11 pm, residents of Layan Hill, Belmont, reported hearing a volley of gunshots. The residents told police that a couple of minutes after the gunshot ceased, they checked the roadway where they found a man lying unconscious with several gunshots wounds to his upper body.
The man succumbed to his wounds at the scene and was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr Powdar. He was later identified by police as Marlon Payne, who lived at the corner of Agard Lane and Braithwaite Streets, Belmont. Police had not established a motive for Payne’s murder up to yesterday morning. The residents who found Payne told investigators that they did not see Payne’s attacker. Detectives of the Region One Homicide Bureau are probing Payne’s murder.
