A 39-year-old Belmont man was killed in a shooting near his home on Thursday night.
Police said around 11pm residents of Layan Hill, Belmont, reported hearing a volley of gunshots.
Residents told police that a few minutes after the gunfire ceased, they checked the roadway where they found a man lying unconscious with several gunshots wounds to his upper body.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr Powdar.
He was later identified by police as Marlon Payne, who lived at the corner of Agard Lane and Braithwaite Streets in Belmont. Police had not established a motive for Payne's murder up to yesterday morning.
Residents who found Payne told investigators that they did not see Payne's attacker.
Detectives of the Region One Homicide Bureau are invesitgating.
