A 34-year-old truck driver died when he was crushed by a three-tonne truck he was repairing at his Penal home on Sunday. Shankar Ramnarace of San Francique, died while being treated at the San Fernando General Hospital. Police said around midday Ramnarace was under the Mazda T35 truck, which was on an incline, when the jack fell away. The truck fell on him, pinning him and opening a gaping wound to the neck, police said.

Speaking at her mini mart yesterday, Ramnarace’s mother Lilowatee could not hold back the tears. She said she last saw him in the market that morning at 11. “He has his own stall and he sell and left and went home. I don’t know what went wrong.” She said Ramnarace’s wife was at home when the incident took place, but was asleep. “Is a neighbour who heard him bawling and calling. When the neighbour went he saw him sitting up under the truck. He was bleeding. They put a pillow under him and try to clean him up. He was bleeding from his ears and nose.”

She said the doctors told them he lost a lot of blood. She said Ramnarace was the third of her four children and had been married for the past five years. He had no children. When the T&T Guardian visited Ramnarace’s home yesterday his widow Lystra was not home. Penal police are investigating.
