A man who attempted to rob a branch of First Citizens in Four Roads, Diego Martin Road, Diego Martin, on Thursday has died at hospital. The 29-year-old man from Diamond Vale was identified as Gordon Ferreira. Police said Ferreira had a history of mental illness. Ferreira died late Friday at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, one day after he was shot several times in the chest and leg by a security guard who was on duty at the bank.

Eyewitnesses said shortly after mid-day on Thursday, Ferreira entered the bank, drew a cutlass from under his T-shirt and began threatening customers and staff. The security guard confronted Ferreira and a struggled ensued before the guard drew for his licensed firearm and shot Ferreira. Police are continuing investigations.
