Bail in the sum of $125,000 was yesterday granted to Pleasantville resident Damien Pierre, who is on an attempted murder charge. An application for alternative cash bail was rejected by the magistrate, who referred to the medical report of the victim in rejecting the application. “Gunshot wound to the chest, I would not say more,” said Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.

Pierre, 35, is accused of shooting Andre Blackwell, 35, of Papourie Road, La Romaine, on July 7 at Coconut Drive, San Fernando. He first appeared in court on Wednesday but the prosecutor objected to bail because of the victim’s condition. The matter was adjourned to yesterday.

Pierre’s attorney, Subhas Panday, said the accused had no previous convictions or pending matters. The magistrate granted him bail and adjourned the matter to September 5.
