Interim leader of the Independent Liberal Party (ILP) Jack Warner says he is in no way intimidated by Minister of the People and Social Development Dr Glenn Ramadharsingh’s pre-action protocol letter or his threat to take legal action against Warner. In fact, he said he would welcome putting Ramadharsingh on the witness stand. In a telephone interview yesterday, Warner said: “I am in no way trembling in my shoes. I am not intimidated and I long for the day for him to take me to court.
“Bear in mind I did not say anything under parliamentary privilege. If Mr Ramadharsingh has a pre-action protocol letter, I didn’t say or do anything about his letter. I want him to carry out his threat now and take me to court. “All I want to do is get him in the box in some point in time and see if he can answer the questions my lawyer will ask him.” Ramadharsingh said the Government was considering legal action against Warner for his allegations against government ministers.
At a public meeting on Tuesday night in New Settlement, Chaguanas, during the Chaguanas West by-election campaign, Warner alleged that a government minister owned six houses. Asked about Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's statement on Wednesday that he must prove his allegations in court to determine whether they were true, Warner reiterated he had nothing personal against Persad-Bissessar.
Warner said he did not say anything about the Prime Minister deliberately, and up to the present time he did not have any intention of changing his style. He said: “Let the Prime Minister say what she wants. I have no briefs with the Prime Minister. I keep saying the Prime Minister is a victim of a cabal, and, therefore I have no quarrel with her up to now. I have never touched her and I do not intend to do anything at this point.”
