Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is inviting those who have switched allegiances to return to the UNC fold. Jack Warner, however, must clear his name before he is accepted back with open arms within the party, she insisted. Speaking at the UNC’s Monday Night Forum at Felicity Hindu School, Chaguanas, Persad-Bissessar said there was still time for those UNC members to return and support their party and candidate, Khadijah Ameen.
“We allow every single one of you to vote for your leader, and every member of your executive, one man one vote, no cabal, no clique, you are the voice of the people,” she said. “I have said repeatedly to Mr Warner, clear your name and come back home. “As long as Mr Warner does not clear his name, then we can’t accept him in the House of the Rising Sun, it’s as simple as that. There is no hate, malice or ill will but we have to decide whether the Government and the people of T&T are more important than one man.
“When I travel to represent our country, I have to face embarrassment and that is why he gave me his resignation as the National Security Minister and I accepted it.” Persad-Bissessar said those were the reasons why the party had to accept Warner’s resignation and could not give him back his seat and he was informed of this very early. She said Warner then came and attacked her sister, Vidwatie Newton, by lying and claiming she had a diplomatic passport.
Persad-Bissessar said Warner picked up that song from the PNM about the travelling of the Government and the Prime Minister, all of which was old news that the PNM exposed and every question was answered in Parliament in Hansard. “The issue is not about his travel, but his inability to travel... he refused to travel since November 2012 on government business,” she said.
“I had to go to Haiti on national security matters, he was absent on the state visit to Canada. Yet he attacks my sister, saying she has a diplomatic passport. “She has a British passport.”
