Special voters in next Monday’s Chaguanas West by-election began casting their ballots yesterday. Staff at the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) said seven special voters voted at the commission’s office on Eleanor Street, Chaguanas. The polling station closed at 3 pm. Returning officer Everil Ross said 79 people are on the list of special voters.
For the by-election, he said, 51 polling stations are to be set up in 31 polling divisions in 14 buildings. He said just under 300 staff members of the EBC were trained for the exercise. Everything, he said, was running smoothly.
Christine Rahman, one of the special voters, who cast her ballot just after noon, said she will be on duty on election day as a poll clerk. Rahaman said, “Everyone eligible to vote should exercise the franchise and go to the polls. It’s your duty to come out and vote.” Special electors can vote daily between 9 am and 3 pm. Voting for special electors closes on Sunday.
