Jack Warner says he plans to file his nomination papers with the UNC as a candidate for the Chaguanas West seat some time this week. However, Warner said he will first hold a media conference at the Centre of Excellence on Tuesday to reveal the advice he received from three top lawyers on the Concacaf report.

Warner said he will officially write to the Prime Minister and the Attorney General and send them copies of the report before going public. He was speaking with reporters at his Caroni Savannah Road office yesterday, where he was attending to members of the public seeking help. Warner said he believed the crime rate was escalating and remains appalled by the recent senseless killing of Police Corporal Terrence Abraham, who was gunned down on Thursday at Milton, Couva.

Warner said if this country did not take immediate measures to deal with the crime situation we will slip back to where we were a few months ago. He said he was willing to sit with the present Minister of National Security and discuss some measures he came up with when he held the post.  “It’s either we sink together or we swim together. I am not willing to discuss in public these measures but instead to sit one on one and have a chat with the minister.”

Warner will continue his walkabouts throughout the constituency and predicts the Prime Minister will announce the date for the by-election around July 1. He said this date should fall out of Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims.
