A Gasparillo firefighter was placed on $125,000 bail when he appeared before a San Fernando magistrate yesterday charged with raping two 10-year old girls. Macalister Douglas, 35, was also ordered to stay away from the two victims and have absolute no contact with them. Douglas, attached to the Port-of-Spain Fire Service headquarters, was arrested last Thursday after a report was made to the police.
He was detained at the Gasparillo Police Station and subsequently charged with three counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 14 and one count of grievous sexual assault. Constable Jason Dailey laid the charges. One of the girls alleged that Douglas had sex with her once last August. The other girl alleged he had sex with her last March, August and in April he grievously sexually assaulted her. He appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.
Douglas’ attorney Dane Hall, in a bail application said the accused was prepared to accept and abide by any conditions the court imposed. He said Douglas also had no previous of pending matters. Court prosecutor Cleyon Seedan confirmed that he had no criminal record prior to these charges. The matter was adjourned to August 6. Meanwhile 62-year-old Leroy Renni, of Embacadere, was denied bail for allegedly molesting a five-year-old girl. Police claimed the incident took place last week and a report was made to the San Fernando police.
Rennie was denied bail by Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando First Court. The matter was adjourned to August 2.
