Google's Response

Ministry of Works and Local Government Minister Suruj Rambachan yesterday provided the letter he got from Google International indicating that e-mail addresses presented by Opposition leader Dr Keith Rowley in the Section 34 fiasco did not exist. He produced the document during a United National Congress (UNC) walkabout in support of Chaguanas West by-election candidate Khadijah Ameen, in Caroni.

Rambachan said he wrote to Google on June 11 and got a response that the e-mail address anan@gmail.com does not exist. Rowley produced the e-mails in Parliament during a no-confidence motion against Persad-Bissessar on May 20. The e-mails allege efforts to undermine the judiciary, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the media.

Persad-Bissessar and her colleagues have denied any knowledge of the e-mails, but the PM mandated Williams to probe the complaint, and he in turn appointed Richardson to head a six-member investigating team. Yesterday, Rambachan showed an e-mail document, coming from the address internationalcivil @google.com, which read in part: “After a diligent search and reasonable inquiry, we have found no subscriber information or IP log information for any Gmail account created by a user with the email address (anan@gmail.com).”

Rambachan had told journalists earlier in the week that he had received the information  from Google after he sent them a request for information. He said then, too, that his lawyer still had his electronic devices, but said the police could have them once they could assure him of the security and safety of his private information.
