UNC candidate for Chaguanas West Khadijah Ameen says she is focusing on her election campaign and will not be distracted. She was responding to a report in a daily newspaper of an e-mail sent to all UNC MPs by Vasant Bharath in 2009 when he was St Augustine MP. The e-mail alleged that Ameen, as a councillor in the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation, was not properly representing her burgesses and was often absent from meetings.
Ameen said: “I will not be distracted and will continue to remain focused on the by election of July 29. “As a woman in politics I am accustomed to such attacks but my credibility remains intact.” Ameen said she has been in politics for the past ten years and is used to all sorts of allegations. Yesterday she visited the Charlieville Shiv Mandir to attend birthday celebrations of pundit Sat Mahabir who offered himself as a candidate to the UNC for the July 29 by-election but was blanked by the screening committee.
