Homicide detectives are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a man who was killed in a shooting in Arima on Thursday evening. According to reports, around 7.30 pm residents of Phase Two, La Horquetta, Arima, reported hearing gunshots. Police from the Northern Division supervised by Insp Eric Parks and Sgt Crawford went to the scene and found the victim lying face down on the pavement at the corner of Winifred and Art De Coteau Streets.
The man, who was wearing a blue T-shirt, grey three-quarter jeans and red flip-flops, had been shot in the head several times. A red bicycle was found near the body and police believe the victim was riding through the area when he was ambushed. Police said the victim did not have identification documents in his pockets and he remained unidentified up to late yesterday. The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for a post-mortem next week.
The murder toll stood at 188 up to yesterday evening. Detectives of the Region Two Homicide Bureau are probing the murder. Investigators are asking members of the public who might have information which could help in identifying the victim and solving his murder, to contact Arima police at 667-3563 or 643-3857. Police are also investigating a shooting in Morvant yesterday afternoon which has a 63-year-old ex-police officer warded in hospital.
Investigators said around 2 pm, Jacob Windsor, of Espinet Street, Morvant was in his parlour in front of his home. Windsor told police two men pretending to be customers came in and asked if he was the owner. When he said he was, one produced a gun and began firing at him. Windsor hid behind a counter but was hit several times in the left arm. The men then ran off to a waiting car.
Windsor was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and remains warded in stable condition. Investigators had not established a motive for the shooting up to late yesterday. Morvant police are continuing investigations.
