Former Caribbean Airlines board member Venosh Sagewan-Maharaj is not on the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) board, says Housing Minister Roodal Moonilal. Moonilal was asked about the issue yesterday, following a report which claimed Sagewan-Maharaj was a Cabinet appointee expected to be named to the HDC board and had “run afoul of integrity legislation.” The report claimed Maharaj did not file integrity declarations for 2009 and also had issues when he was with the CAL board.
The new HDC board will receive its instruments of appointment at 10 am today at a function on-site of the construction of HDC’s Cyrpress Gardens community in Union Hall, San Fernando. Former CAL chairman Rabindra Moonan is tipped for the board, along with PP Senator James Lambert and a Tobago House of Assembly representative.
Sagewan-Maharaj and Moonan were part of the CAL board which was replaced last month by Finance Minister Larry Howai. In view of the claim that Sagewan-Maharaj had not filed the integrity declarations, Moonilal was asked if Sagewan-Maharaj would be on the HDC board. Asked about names tipped in the public domain for the board, Moonilal said the Government had adjusted the “skills mix” on the board to include more technical expertise.
