Several T&T nationals in New York have been unable to have their passport applications processed over the past three days because of a computer problem at the New York consulate. Irate nationals contacted the T&T Guardian to inform of the development. They said they were told at the consulate that the problem was emanating from Port-of-Spain.
Sources yesterday confirmed that passport applications could not be processed because of a security problem with the computer system. The T&T Guardian was also told a device was sent from Port-of-Spain to the New York consulate on Wednesday night with a view to providing a temporary solution. Sources said the system was working very slowly.
Contacted for comment on the latest problem, Consul General in New York Rudrawatee Nan Ramgoolam confirmed the problem and indicated that the authorities in Port-of-Spain were notified of it. Sources said there was another problem at the consulate from April 29 to May 2 but that was a connectivity problem emanating from Port-of-Spain.
