Police have seized drugs, guns and made several arrests, including that of a Suriname national, over the past 48 hours, police public information officer Sgt Wayne Mystar said at yesterday’s weekly press briefing. A pistol, 49 rounds of .380 ammunition and 138 grammes of marijuana were found in a car in Trincity on Tuesday, he said. Three men ranging in age from 17 to 21, from Petit Bourg, Trincity and Morvant, are assisting the police in this matter.
Police from the Northern Division Task Force under Sgt Pitt were on mobile patrol along De Lima Avenue in Trincity when they saw the car passing, stopped it and searched it, before arresting the occupants. Mystar said a 38-year-old man was also arrested by officers of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearm Bureau on Monday night, after arriving at Piarco International Airport on a flight from Suriname.
The officers searched his luggage and allegedly found 2.12 kilogrammes of cocaine with a street value of $800,000. He is expected to appear before an Arima magistrate today.
Mystar also said from 6 am to 10 am on Tuesday, police from the Eastern Division Task Force, under the supervision of Sgt Mohammed, went into the bush off Charuma Road, Rio Claro, where they found an unoccupied camp with 22 kilogrammes of cured marijuana and a shotgun with two 12-gauge cartridges. They also found approximately 3,000 fully grown marijuana trees and 500 seedlings. The narcotics have an estimated street value of $3.2 million.
