Re-appointed Integrity Commissioner Seunarine Jokhoo has said “if the President requests your services, then maybe you should agree.” Jokhoo commented briefly yesterday after it was announced, via a statement from President’s House, he had been reappointed to the commission. Jokhoo had been a member of the previous Integrity Commission. Saying he was unaware of an announcement, Jokhoo said he could not comment since he had to wait until the President formally announced the appointments and commissioners were sworn in, noting the President could pull back the appointment at any point until there was a swearing-in.
Asked if the new commission would probe the e-mails from Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley which were before the commission, Jokhoo said he was not at the commission yet and as such could not say anything. Attempts to contact another appointee, Shelly-Anne Lalchan, were unsuccessful yesterday.
She is listed on Linked In sites as a director at the Eye Specialist Ltd. Interviewed by the media at a recent opthalmology conference, Lalchan had said she only returned to T&T in the last 18 months after practising in the UK. A member of the Royal College of Opthalmologists, Lalchan was reported as saying most of her ophthalmology was done in England, in Morefields, a premier hospital for eye patients in the UK. Efforts to reach other members—Sebastian Ventour and Deonarine Jaggernauth—also were unsuccessful as calls to their phones went unanswered.
