The body of a Siparia pensioner was found lying in his shack yesterday. Police said Steve Ramjit, 67, of Kay Trace, Siparia was found dead around noon by his neighbour Rasheed Moonan. Ramjit lived alone in a shack at the edge of a cricket field. He was last seen walking on Saturday morning and was not known to be suffering from any illnesses. His body was covered in ants.
A source, who requested anonymity, said Ramjit was an alcoholic with a preference for bay rum. “He was never sick but he would spend his pension every month on rum. We accustomed seeing him around by the cricket ground drinking,” the neighbour said. District Medical Officer Dr Rajkumar visited the scene and ordered Ramjit’s body removed to the San Fernando mortuary. An autopsy will be done today. Investigations are continuing.
