Two men appeared in the Scarborough Magistrates Court yesterday charged with trafficking in approximately $6.2 million worth of marijuana. Deon Stewart of Patience Hill and Hayden George of Cinnamon Hill appeared before Magistrate Nanette Ford–John. They were jointly charged with having 200 kilos of marijuana in their possession for the purpose of trafficking.

They are accused of having the marijuana on North Side Road, Castara, on June 12. The court heard yesterday they surrendered to police after eluding them on June 12. Stewart and George were granted $50,000 bail each and ordered to report to the Old Grange and Scarborough Police Stations, respectively, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Stewart, a mason, was represented by Vashist Maharaj who requested a reasonable bail for his client. Maharaj said Stewart surrendered to police and was co-operative while detained and was not a flight risk. George was represented by Dawn Palackdaharry Singh-Wheeler. Acting Corporal Trim of the Divisional Task Force laid the charges. They are to reappear in court on July 18.
