Crime Watch

A woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted by her ex-boyfriend has turned to Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne for justice. In a tell-all interview, the 24-year-old woman of Oropune Gardens, Piarco, claimed police officers were not acting on her report because of her former boyfriend’s close relationship with a senior police officer. She said she had recently broken off the relationship with the boyfriend and had changed the locks to her home as she feared for her safety.

The woman, whose identity was concealed, said she was at her apartment on November 28, when she heard someone called at her door around 3 am. Upon checking she realised her former-boyfriend and his younger brother were at the door. She said man said he came to collect his jacket. The woman said she immediately began calling for assistance from her roommate, who advised her to call the police.

She said the man assured her that he would not harm her and just wanted his jacket, and that was the reason he brought his younger brother. The woman said she opened a window to push the jacket through when the man pushed his younger brother through the window. She said froze in fear and the teenager ran to the door and tried to open it. The teen, she said, was unable to open the door because of a recently installed dead-bolt. By then, the man climbed through the window, the woman said.

She said the man snatched her by her hair and began threatening her. With the help of his younger brother, she said, she was  thrown her on the ground and held down. The woman said the man threw boiling water on her and sexually assaulted her with a heated pot spoon. The woman said she was beaten on her head with the same spoon and warned not to report the matter to the police or else she “will disappear.”

The woman said she was bleeding from her injuries and an ambulance took her to the hospital for treatment. Alleyne said during his investigation into the incident he found out that the man was related to a senior police officer in the Northern Division. Alleyne contacted Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham for urgent assistance. Alleyne said even though the woman has identified her attackers no attempts were made by the police to arrest them.

Alleyne promised to keep following up the matter until her attackers are arrested.

Arson attack
Alleyne said he was also investigating a case of arson after two men set alight road-paving equipment at the site of the Caroni Highway. A watchman reported to police that he was held up at gunpoint on December 2 during the early hours of the morning. He said he was tied up and equipment belonging to Super Industrial Services was set alight. The estimated value of the equipment which was destroyed had been estimated at close to $10 million.

The investigation revealed that the motive is a mafia-style fight over contracts between contractors. A vehicle was spotted on camera leaving the scene and may prove to be a key link in solving the matter.

Murder scene visit
Alleyne visited the scene of a homicide where a 41-year-old plumber Clifton Alleyne John, alias Monkman, who resided at Christian Drive, Paradath Street, Enterprise, Chaguanas, was shot dead by on November 29, around 7.30 pm.

Alleyne interviewed relatives and neighbours but no one was able to shed any light as to the motive for the killing. His mother told Alleyne that her son had spoken about threats to his life but could not comment further on the matter. Alleyne is continuing his investigations and is asking the public with any information on the identity or whereabouts of the killer to please call the Crime Watch hotlines.

Breakthrough story
A 15-year-old girl who ran away from home returned to her family after her case was highlighted on the programme. The girl left home on December 3 and her aunt went on the programme pleading with her to return home. The woman told Alleyne this was not the first time the teenager had left home. Within one day of the broadcast the teenager returned home. The child’s mother and aunt thanked Alleyne for assisting them in finding the teen.
