An excavator driver who plunged over a 40-foot precipice in Santa Cruz during road repairs on Saturday drowned, according to an autopsy report.

The autopsy also found Hardeo Jaggit, a 32-year-old father of three, suffered a broken left hip and two broken legs.

Forensic pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov said yesterday Jaggit became unconscious after he broke his bones and fell face down in water.

Jaggit, an operator with KGS Enterprises, fell over the precipice around 4.30 pm and his body was recovered around 2 am on Sunday.

Eyewitnesses told the police Jaggit was attempting to climb a hill when the excavator lost traction and fell over the cliff, pushing a white Mitsubishi pickup with it.

Speaking with the media yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, Jaggit’s widow, Geeta, said she was happy her husband got to spend time with his seven-week-old daughter before he died. She said she found it strange her husband’s wallet was missing. She said he had been paid on Saturday.

She added: “They said he try to control it but it spin out of control, hit a van and went into the bushes and overturn. They said it flipped but from what I see and how it landed it seemed like it just overturn.

“He was a loving person, anyone who wanted help he would help them. He was a good father to his children and loved cricket.”
