One man was killed and seven others, including a six-year-old, were injured in a vehicular accident in Chaguaramas early yesterday morning. Police said at about 7.08 am, Krishen Singh, 26, of Todds Road, Longdenville, was driving his white Mitsubishi panel van along the Western Main Road when he crashed into a white three-tonne truck, which was travelling in the opposite direction. The accident occurred in front of the construction site of the Chaguaramas boardwalk extension.
The three-tonne truck, owned Omega Building Systems in Arima, was driven by Sheldon Trotman of Gonzales, Belmont. Singh died at the scene. His friend, Ronald Sukhan, 29, also of Todds Road, is warded in critical condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Occupants of Trotman’s vehicle were also injured. They were identified as Elmo Belfonte, Anna Maria Trotman, Mathais Deepoo and Maria Aceivero. Police said a six-year-old child, who was thrown out of the vehicle, was in critical condition at hospital, but up to press time last evening no further details on the child were released. Investigations are continuing.
