A 33-year-old Laventille woman was wounded in a shooting in Port-of-Spain on Thursday evening.
According to reports, around 7.30 pm, Roxanne Murray, of Block 22, Trou Macaque Road, Laventille, was waiting for a taxi at the corner of Duke and Nelson Streets.
Police said residents of a nearby Housing Development Corporation building complex reported hearing several gunshots, then found Murray lying on the pavement. She had been shot twice in the lower back.
Murray was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she is warded in a stable condition.
Detectives of the Port-of-Spain CID, led by ASP Ajith Persad and Insp Nigel Birch, visited the scene and interviewed people.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
Meanwhile, a 52-year-old watchman is also warded in a stable condition after being chopped during an attempted robbery in Valencia on Thursday night.
Investigators said around 5.30 pm a wounded Ricky Hart, of Tattoo Trace, Valencia, was found unconscious at a construction site near his home.
Police said Hart’s son Matthew went to visit his father at the site and found the front gate ajar and his father lying on the ground with several chop wounds to his head and arms.
ASP Ramkelawan and Eastern Division Police are probing the incident.
