Former Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson was named by the International Criminal Court as part of a team that will be in charge of the case against former President of Côte d’Ivoire Laurent Gbagbo.

In 2013, the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) granted Henderson a three-year no-pay leave to take up the ICC post in The Netherlands.

The charges against Gbagbo are four counts of crimes against humanity for his role in the murder, rape, persecution, and other inhuman acts committed in the context of the post-election violence in Côte d’Ivoire between December 2010 and April 2011.

Gbagbo, 69, is the first former head of state to have appeared at the ICC.
