As search for missing mom continues...
Bissoondaye Geeta Seenath

Relatives of missing hiker Bissoondaye Geeta Seenath say she is alive and they are not giving up hope of finding her. The search for her enters day six today. Seenath, a mother of three, of Chapel Street, Princes Town, went missing while on a hike at Rio Seco falls, Matura, on Saturday afternoon. She went on an excursion with 40 people to Salybia beach and accompanied 13 people to the nearby Rio Seco falls.

Seenath, 46, did not make it back to the beach and a search was launched for her. Army personnel camped out overnight in the forest on Tuesday to get an early start in the search for Seenath yesterday. Search teams, which included sniffer dogs from the Canine Unit, had aerial support for the National Security helicopter as they combed the thick bush in the Northern Range. Seenath’s daughter Roshnie said the search teams have been walking trails where her mother might have lost her way.

She said, however, “We have not found anything—no clothing, no jewelry, no shoes, no slippers.” Roshnie sent out a heartfelt message to anyone who may have information on her mother. She said: “Please contact us, contact the Matura and Sangre Grande police stations. We do not want your identity, just give us the information. If you were in my position you would want the same to be done for a family member.”

Yesterday, Seenath’s husband Mohan, who has also been searching in the Northern Range with relatives, police and army personnel for his missing wife, said he knew she was alive. He said: “Yes, we are getting scared, but I also have a strong feeling. I know the person she is, she is a fighter and we will get her somewhere. She is alive, I know her, I know her capability. Mohan said the police and soldiers have been doing a great job in the effort to find his wife.

Anyone with information on Seenath’s disappearance can contact Roshnie Seenath at 386-7616, Mohan Seenath at 352-1661 or the Matura police station at 668-4511.
