Police said Baker, originally of Petra Crescent, La Horquetta, moved out of his hometown in early May, days after Seetahal’s murder and sought refuge at Kurban Ali Drive, Calcutta #2, with his girlfriend, one-year-old child and nephew Kareem Edwards. Baker, Edwards, 19, and Reuben Richins, 23, were killed when members of the North Eastern Task Force raided the Freeport apartment on Wednesday night. All three men were from La Horquetta.
Two illegal guns—a .38 revolver and a .45 pistol—were recovered by police along with two bullet-proof vests. Baker was wanted in both the Northern and Central Divisions for questioning in at least two other murders, for rape and a string of shooting incidents, police investigators said yesterday. Investigations said as far back as August 12, 2006, Baker was charged with robbing Cpl David Springer, the then official driver of the Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul, of a $7,000 gold chain at gunpoint at the Triangle Bar, La Horquetta. That charge was eventually dismissed as Springer did not give evidence.
As a result of the robbery incident, police raided Baker’s Petra Crescent home, where a tec-9 sub-machine gun was recovered. His mother, Joan, an employee at the Port Authority, and sisters—Khadine and Kadisha Prince—then both employees at a telephone company, were also held and charged, along with Baker (David), with the unlawful possession of the firearms and ammunition. The status of that case could not be ascertained yesterday.
Police investigators said Baker was also wanted for questioning in the January 15 murder of Jabari Thompson, of Phase Four, La Horquetta. Thompson was shot dead after being chased by gunmen along Evans Reece Lane, Phase Four, La Horquetta. The victim’s brother, Gerald Thompson, was also shot in that incident but survived. Northern Division Homicide police said Baker was also linked to the murder of Fabian “Zoltan” London, 46, who was shot moments after leaving the Arima Magistrates Court on May 1 last year. Another man has been charged with London’s murder.
