With Rehanna Ali’s killer still on the loose, her mother and sister have moved out of their Siparia home. Myroon Gafoor said she was taking no chances as she fears that the “monster” will try to hurt her and her other daughter, Sheriffa, 20. Police questioned a close relative, a 48-year-old man, in connection with the brutal killing but released him on Thursday.
Ali, 29, who endured years of domestic abuse was chopped to death at her home in Spring Trace, Quarry Village, Siparia, on Tuesday. In a telephone interview, Gafoor said she decided to leave yesterday. She left her husband behind. “I cannot lose another child. I am hearing all kinds of things, like he want to burn down the house with three of us in it. We living in fear,” she said.
Ali’s funeral service took place on Friday. The mother said relatives saw the suspect in the cemetery, but he had police with him. “I don’t know where he is now,” she said. Gafoor said since Ali’s murder villagers formed a community watch and are keeping guard. She said the police told her they did not have enough evidence to charge anyone, but investigations are continuing.
“I will not feel safe until he is behind bars,” said Gafoor. Police confirmed that no one has been arrested and investigations were ongoing.
