Police have confirmed they are investigating the disappearance of over 40 guns from the Forensic Science Centre, St James, but are being mum on the investigation.
Contacted yesterday on the status of the investigation, Deputy Commissioner of Police Glen Hackett said he would speak on the matter when he had something substantive.
According to reports, the guns went missing sometime between last year and last month. The weapons were taken to the centre for ballistic testing. Most of them formed part of exhibits in ongoing police cases and their removal may hamper the cases.
The disappearance of the weapons was first reported to director at the Forensic Science Centre, Arlette Lewis, by Derek Sankar, who is in charge of the ballistic room.
Lewis then reported the matter to the police. (JL)
