The apparent murder of a 72-year old pensioner on Wednesday night has shocked residents of Agostini Settlement, Lime Head Road, Freeport, where he lived. Balliram Singh, a 72-year old retiree, was found gagged and naked on the floor of his home with his hands bound behind his back. His face was bashed in, his body bore marks of violence and there was blood around his body. His car was not found.
According to police reports, Singh’s common-law wife, Waheeda Seeteram, last saw him alive around 5.30 pm on Monday. On Wednesday, Seeteram, 60, who lives at Petersville, Cunupia, checked in on Singh at his Freeport home around 8.30 pm and saw his body on the floor of his home. Head of the Central Division, Snr Supt Johnny Abraham, Insp Glen Teesdale, Sgt Jitendra Toolaram and Sgt Susan John visited the scene.
Singh’s post mortem was scheduled for yesterday evening at the Forensic Science Centre, St James. The killing has taken the murder toll to 265 as compared to 232 for the corresponding period last year. Investigations are continuing.
