Seiko Young was killed at his home in Ruby Roberts Lane, Fyzabad, yesterday.

Days after a heated argument with a neighbour, a 32-year-old Cepep labourer was gunned down at his Fyzabad home yesterday morning. Police believe the murder of Seiko “Spider” Young was drug-related as they said he was a well known drug peddler and had previous convictions for marijuana possession. Up to midday, South Western Division Task Force was searching Young’s home at Ruby Roberts Lane for drugs in an area known as Skull Mountain. Although they came up empty-handed, investigators were able to gather information on a possible suspect. Around 12.45 am, Young’s relatives, who live next door, were watching television when they heard gunshots at his house. One of his brothers went across and found him lying in a pool of blood with bullet wounds.

His mother, 54-year-old Elena Charles, contacted Fyzabad police, who brought an ambulance. He was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police, including ASP Rodriguez, Insp Parriman, Insp Ramdeen, Sgt Taitt and Sgt Maharaj, combed the area in search of his killer, who had not been found up to yesterday evening. While police probe a drug link, Charles said a neighbour had threatened to shoot and chop her children because of an ongoing land feud. Speaking at her home, the mother of nine said her son was innocently killed as he was a calm person who never had spats with anyone. She said: “I always had an argument with a neighbour until I brought him up in court for slandering my name and threatening me.  “He ran in the yard with a blade scraping on the ground, threatening to chop my children. “He and another one of my sons had an altercation so I banned him from passing through my yard. Since March he has been cursing me and telling me hurtful things.”

Recalling the horrific night, she said: “My daughter called me saying, ‘Ma, Ma, I heard three or four shots in the yard by Seiko, it’s like he got shot.’ “I did not come out the house one time, so she called her brothers to look and they went into his yard, calling out, ‘Spider.’ “When I reached, they were bringing his body out by the steps to lie but he did not die as yet. “I suffer with high blood pressure so I did not want to see the body so my sister-in-law came across and asked him where he got shot and he said it was by the waist. “I couldn’t go across because I already started to shake and with that the ambulance came and took him but then he died.” Southern Homicide is continuing investigations.
