Malala Yousafzai

Guardian Media Ltd’s television arm, CNC3, will broadcast for two days—today and tomorrow—a speech of girls’ education advocate Malala Yousafzai, who stood up against Taliban militants. Guardian Media is the official media partner for the visit of Yousafzai, who is expected to arrive in Trinidad in the coming days. At 9 am today and 8.05 am on Monday, CNC3 will air a 19-minute speech which Yousafzai delivered at the 2013 United Nations General Assembly.

In her address, Yousafzai spoke about her advocacy for girls’ education, which resulted in the Taliban attempting to kill her by shooting her in the left side of her head. Yousafzai, 17, was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2013, and again in 2014. Yousafzai is being brought to T&T by the University of T&T, which falls under the Ministry of Tertiary Education and Skills Training headed by Fazal Karim.

On July 30, Yousafzai will be at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, where she will address children and young adults. The following day, Yousafzai will deliver the feature address at a gala event at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port-of-Spain.
