A 24-year-old murder suspect who was wounded in a shoot-out with police on Tuesday morning, died of his injuries yesterday. Sean “Pussy Cat” Alleyne, of Eastern Quarry, Laventille, died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital around 2.30 pm. Alleyne was being treated for four gunshot wounds to the head. According to police reports, around 3.30 am on Tuesday morning members of the Inter-Agency Task Force were on patrol in Dan Kelly, Laventille when they saw Alleyne standing at the side of the road.

Police said Alleyne shot at them and they returned fire. Investigators said Alleyne had a lengthy criminal record which included pending court cases for drug and firearm possession. Alleyne was also a well known member of a gang which operates in his community, police said. Alleyne was said to be the main suspect in several murders in Laventille over the Indian Arrival Day/Corpus Christi long weekend.

He was also identified as the main suspect in the shooting of a police officer in Beetham Gardens, less than two hours before he was himself shot. In that incident, around 2 am Sgt Knott and PC Hernandez of the Port-of-Spain Division Task Force were on patrol when they were reportedly shot by Alleyne. ASP Mervyn Edwards and Insp Sahadeo Singh of the Port-of-Spain CID are probing Alleyne’s death.
