Workers from Trinmar and those employed by a Brazilian contractor working on the Solomon Hochoy Highway extension are expected to down tools today in protest against their respective employers. The Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union announced yesterday the workers were expected to converge at separate locations in Point Fortin.
The meeting with Trinmar’s workers is carded for 7 am at the OWTU Branch Hall, Newlands, while OAS workers are scheduled to meet an hour later at the Guapo Community Centre, Main Road, Gonzales Village.

The oil workers of the Trinmar branch are taking the action “in response to recent attacks by Petrotrin's management and continued violations of the collective agreement, workers will hold a mass meeting to discuss these critical matters and the way forward,” the union said. It is expected  OWTU members from other branches will be part of the meeting. The highway workers say they are fed up with the bulldozing of their homes and non-payment by the state, as well as the limited job opportunities, contrary to what was promised.
