Political Leader of the Congress of the People (COP) Prakash Ramadhar yesterday said he was disappointed at Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Dookeran’s public endorsement of Public Affairs Minister Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan for the leadership of the party. Speaking to reporters after he cast his vote at the Curepe Presbyterian School, he said: “I am quite disappointed. Everything we learned from him was about the removal of gate-keeping from the politics and I believed him.”
Ramadhar said he had done enough work to deserve re-election. “If voting is done by truth and good conscience, I shall have no problem retaining leadership of the party,” he said hours before the results were announced. “I have been committed to this party and will continue working for the people of T&T. That is my ambition and what I have done in the past seven years.”
Dookeran said the results of yesterday’s vote will guide his decisions. “I indicated that I was willing to offer myself to the party. The decision of the people will guide my decision.” Dookeran said he believed a strong COP in government is the best safeguard for the people.
