Seventy-four-year-old Janice Heath from Delhi Street, St James, was murdered yesterday in a suspected home invasion. Heath, a retired school principal of the Four Roads Government School, Diego Martin, was found when members of the local Jehovah’s Witness Hall went to check on her because she failed to show for the 9 am Sunday service. They found the side door of Heath’s home open and her bloodied body inside.

Although the T&T Guardian responded to reports of a stabbing in St James, neither the police nor family members could confirm the manner in which Heath was murdered or a motive. A Police forensic team combed the area, while visibly shocked neighbours and family members including the victim’s son Neil Heath stood by waiting for more information. Heath’s son said that his mother had lived alone since his father died last year but that he visited every day. He said he last saw her on Saturday night.

Heath was remembered by neighbours as a beautiful person who always said good morning. St James Police declined to make any official comment.
