Works and Infrastructure Minister Dr Surajrattan Rambachan says he is yet to meet with Deputy Commissioner of Police Mervyn Richardson over the contentious e-mails revealed in Parliament by Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley. Rambachan was expected to meet with Richardson on Monday. However, speaking with reporters yesterday at the sod-turning ceremony for the $18 million Brickfield Tabaquite Packing House, Rambachan, said: “Mr Richardson was busy yesterday.”
Yesterday, Rambachan welcomed reports that foreign information technology experts were coming to help authenticate the e-mails. “I think that the best talent should be used to get to the bottom of this matter,” he said. “This is a very serious matter, where people have made serious claims against ministers of government and even the Prime Minister. I think it is very important that the best resources be used in order to get to the bottom of this.”
He agreed with the position taken by members of the Privileges Committee not to speak to the media about their meeting on Monday on the e-mail scandal. Persad-Bissessar had referred Rowley to the committee, arguing he committed contempt of the House by misleading it and recklessly abused parliamentary privilege. Rambachan said: “All of the information is confidential. I think that should be respected. That is the process.”
