Rev Adrian Sieunarine says there will be justice for Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal. He was speaking during the sermon at the 40 days’ memorial service held in her remembrance at the Aramalaya Presbyterian Church in Tunapuna, yesterday. Sieunarine used Jesus’ parables of the lost sheep and coin as a metaphor for people’s searching for the answers to Seetahal’s shooting.
He said, “The lamps are lit and we’re looking. Dana would have said that there is a legal distinction between loss and theft and her departure from us seems less like a loss than a theft. “She was taken from us, we didn’t lose her. “We’re searching, we’re looking for answers and wondering and we do not know if we will ever be satisfied.” Sieunarine said people cannot be possessed; they came into our lives and there was something that energised us.
He told the congregation to think of how special Seetahal was and still is, her legacy of love, and the many memories of her. Sieunarine asked how do we live in this time of searching and worrying. He said God was needed in a world full of trouble and where so much was stolen from us. Sieunarine said they all knew what loss and theft felt like and they were still searching and seeking for answers to Seetahal’s death.
Senator Helen Drayton said in her tribute to Seetahal that many people did not know that the attorney was a poet and artist and her canvas was painted in love that would remain in their hearts forever. Among the congregation were Seetahal’s family, work colleagues, former students and long-time friends. Also present was Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.
