The following is the full text of a media release from chairman of the Congress of the People (COP) Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan dated June 5th. This came after COP founder and former leader, Winston Dookeran, issued a media release on June 3rd endorsing her to contest the position.
Over the past few days I have been discussing with my family, close friends and members of the party my potential candidacy for the political leadership of the Congress of the People (COP). I am thankful and encouraged by the overwhelming support I have been receiving.
I have prayed and sought guidance on this very important life decision.
It is with great humility that I now announce my decision to contest the position of political leader of the Congress of the People (COP).
Tomorrow, Friday June 6th 2014, I will file my nomination papers at 12.30pm at Operations Centre, Charlieville, Chaguanas.
I thank the media, members of the COP and the wider public for their patience while I gave due consideration to my decision.
Respectfully
Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan
Chairman
