Three people were injured in a four-vehicle collison along the Solomon Hochoy Highway, Claxton Bay, yesterday. The accident caused traffic to pile up for miles along the south-bound lane. Emmanuel Birchoon, 65, the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident, a Nissan 280 C, said he was attempting to exit the highway onto the Forres Park overpass, when he was forced back onto the busy roadway by another motorist.

“I was trying to go left, to come off the highway and this car squeeze me back onto the road,” said Birchoon. “The next thing I know, one truck slam into me and pushed my car against the other truck, which hit the SUV.” Birchoon, who walked away unhurt, said he felt lucky to be alive as his car was completely destroyed in the crash. “The man that ‘bad drive’ me just gone he way. I feel lucky to be alive and glad nobody died.”

The driver of the SUV, Adesh Siewah and his front seat passenger, Cindy Lee Madoo, along with one of the truck drivers, Peter Sookhoo, were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for treatment by an ambulance. The other driver, Dhanraj Mahabir, was unhurt. Emergency medical personnel on the scene said no one was seriously hurt as a result of the accident, describing the injuries as minor.

Fire sub-officer attached to the Savonetta Fire Station, Marlon Ford, said that particular stretch of roadway, was known for many serious accidents. “The station regularly gets calls to assist with accidents here. It is most likely because of the sharp bend in the road, that most people miscalculate and run-off,” said Ford. Highway patrol officers, PC’s McIntyre and Guerra along with WPC Telesford, of the Southern Division Highway Patrol, are continuing investigations.
